Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will be the chief guest at the 76th Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi next week. The leader will be on a state visit to India during Jan. 25-26, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday.
This will be Prabowo’s first visit to India in his capacity as President, after assuming office in October last year. He is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Draupadi Murmu and other top leaders.
"India and Indonesia share warm and friendly ties spanning over millenia. As a Comprehensive Strategic Partner, Indonesia is an important pillar in India’s Act East Policy and our vision of the Indo-Pacific," the ministry said.
Prabowo's visit will provide an opportunity for the heads of government to undertake a comprehensive review of bilateral ties as well as to discuss regional and global issues of mutual interest, the statement added.
Last year, French President Emmanuel Macron attended the Republic Day parade at Delhi's iconic Kartavya Path.
In 2018, India hosted the head of ASEAN countries, including then President Joko Widodo.
