Nifty, Sensex Open Lower As M&M, RIL Share Prices Drag: Opening Bell

The NSE Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex opened lower on Monday as Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. and Reliance Industries Ltd. share prices dragged the most. As of 9:16 a.m., the Nifty 50 was 194.65 points or 0.85% down at 22,734.60, and the Sensex was 556.67 points or 0.73% down at 75,382.54.

"The Nifty index formed an inverted hammer on the daily chart, signaling difficulty in sustaining higher levels after a sharp 190-point rally, followed by a nearly 200-point decline from the day’s high. Key support is placed at 22,900, with a breakdown potentially leading to 22,775, while resistance is observed at 23,250 and 23,500. A sustained close above 23,500 could drive the index towards 23,800–24,000," said Aakash Shah, technical research, analyst, Choice Broking.

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., ICICI Bank Ltd., Infosys Ltd., HDFC Bank Ltd., and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. weighed on the Nifty 50 index.

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., Bajaj Finance Ltd., Cipla Ltd., Bajaj Finserve Ltd., and Asian Paints Ltd. added to the Nifty 50 index.

On NSE, 10 sectors declined, and two advanced out of 12. The NSE Nifty Auto declined the most, and the NSE Nifty Pharma rose the most.

The BSE Midcap and Smallcap were trading 0.04% and 0.17% down, respectively.

On BSE, all 20 sectors declined and one advanced. The BSE Auto declined the most.

On BSE, 1,922 stocks advanced, 1,074 stocks declined, and 151 stocks remained unchanged on BSE.

Yield On The 10-Year Bond Opens Flat

The yield on the 10-year bond opened flat at 6.69%. It closed at 6.70% on Friday, according to Bloomberg.

Rupee Opens Stronger Against US Dollar

Rupee strengthened by 14 paise to open at 86.69 against the US Dollar. It closed at 86.83 on Friday, according to data on Bloomberg.
