Stock Marlet Live: Axis Capital On Consumer Services
Axis Capital's report on Consumer Services highlights the underperformance of Zomato and Swiggy compared to the Nifty year-to-date, primarily due to intense competition in the quick commerce sector.
Discounts, which had surged from 2-6% to 14-20% between September 2024 and January 2025, have now stabilized. Among competitors, Zepto is noted for its aggressive pricing strategy, while Blinkit offers the best product assortment. Margin pressure, driven by discounts and store costs, is expected to peak in the next two to three quarters, with Swiggy being more significantly impacted.
Despite these challenges, the stocks are considered to be near their bottom. Key risks identified by Axis Capital include the price sensitivity of users and the potential for aggressive discounts from major players like Amazon and RIL. Zomato is the preferred stock over Swiggy.

The impact on Indian oil companies is significant. Every $1 per barrel increase in GRM can boost Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals' Ebitda by Rs 1,000 crore, Chennai Petro's EPS by 30%, and earnings for IOCL, BPCL, and HPCL by 16%, 16%, and 14% respectively.
