The benchmark equity indices continued to decline for the third straight day on Thursday, dragged by share prices of Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. and Bajaj Finance Ltd.
The NSE Nifty 50 ended 18.8 points or 0.08% lower at 24,793.25, while the BSE Sensex closed 82.79 points or 0.10% down at 81,361.87. During the day, the Nifty fell 0.32% to trade at 24,733.40 and the Sensex fell 0.31% to 81,191.04.
Shares of Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. and Eicher Motors Ltd. were the top gainers.
Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. and Bajaj Finance Ltd. were among the biggest laggards.
In terms of points contribution, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. and Bharti Airtel Ltd. were among stocks that led the gains in the index.
Infosys Ltd. and State Bank Of India Ltd. dragged the index the most.
On the NSE, 13 out of the 15 sectors ended in the red, with Nifty PSU Bank, Media and Realty declining the most.
The broader market indices underperformed as the BSE MidCap and SmallCap both declined 1.64% and 1.77% respectively.
The market breadth was skewed in favour of the sellers as 3,006 stocks declined, 950 advanced and 137 remained unchanged on the BSE
