The benchmark equity indices closed flat on Tuesday, with the BSE Sensex breaking their four-session winning streak.
The NSE Nifty 50 ended 1.05 points higher at 25,104.25, while the BSE Sensex closed 53.49 points or 0.06% lower at 82,39.72. During the day, the Nifty rose 0.38% to trade at 25,199.3 and the Sensex advanced 0.29% to 82,680.79.
Shares of Grasim Industries Ltd., Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. and Tech Mahindra Ltd. were the top gainers.
Trent Ltd., Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. and Asian Paints Ltd. were among the biggest laggards.
In terms of points contribution, Infosys Ltd. and ITC Ltd. were among stocks that led gains in the index.
HDFC Bank Ltd., ICICI Bank Ltd. and Reliance Industries Ltd. dragged the index the most.
On the NSE, seven out of the 15 sectors ended in the red, with Nifty Realty, PSU Bank and Finance among the top losers.
In the broader market, the BSE MidCap and SmallCap outperformed the Sensex, closing 0.04% and 0.33% up respectively.
The market breadth was skewed in favour of the buyers as 2,245 stocks advanced, 1,790 declined and 137 remained unchanged on the BSE.
