Mark Mobius, co-founder of Mobius Capital Partners, gave a positive outlook for Vodafone Idea Ltd. as he expects a better performance from the embattled telecom major.

Along with Vodafone, Mobius also considers Reliance Jio to be a promising player. He underlined the importance of their pace of growth in determining who will excel.

"Vodafone is something we want to look at. It hasn't been doing too well as you can see in the past 12 months," he told NDTV Profit in a conversation on Thursday. "But I believe going forward, you will see better performance in Vodafone."

Moreover, he shared his views on the scope of IT companies in India, saying that he will be looking at tech-driven hardware companies more than software companies. "India is doing very well on the software side. Chips, semiconductors and general hardware for computers and other appliances will be important in India," he said.

The consumer sector in India is also among the top booming sectors and will see a lot of development going forward, according to Mobius. He was particularly interested in Nestle India Ltd. among other mid-cap consumer companies.

The Mobius Capital Partners co-founder said a lot will change for India as American manufacturers choose the country as a preferred supply source due to political tensions and trade wars.

"As American manufacturers have used China as their main supply source, that will shift more towards India going forward. India will get a lot of direct investment as well, which will be very important for India's future," he said.

Mobius recommended a portfolio allocation of 50% in equities, 10% in gold and 20% in property for new investors. "The most important lesson is that you have to look at the people behind the companies you are investing in, not just the balance sheet," he said.
