The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the BSE will both remain open today, Feb. 1 on account of the Budget Day. Both the exchanges have confirmed the news in separate circulars.
The NSE and BSE are typically closed on weekends. However, following the precedent set in previous years, such as in 2020 and 2015, the exchanges have decided to remain open on Budget Day, when Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget 2025.
"On account of the presentation of the Union Budget, Exchange shall be conducting live trading session on February 01, 2025, as per the standard market timings," the NSE said in its circular.
The pre-market trading will start at 9 a.m. and end at 9:08 a.m. Thereafter, the equity markets will remain open from 9:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
However, the "T0" session will not be scheduled for trading on Saturday due to a settlement holiday, the exchanges have said.
Why Are BSE and NSE Open Today?
The Union Budget holds great significance to the market and its participants. Announcements made in the annual Budget often influence market trends and investor sentiment. Stocks remain highly volatile, performing better if a specific sector gets some incentive.
Keeping the stock market open on this important day will mean that investors will be able to react to any decisions in real-time, thereby reaping the benefits of any fluctuation.
Analysts will closely monitor the announcements to assess any potential impact on stock valuations, economic growth as well as sector performance.
