The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the BSE have released their trading holiday calendar for 2025. As per the calendar, there will be a total of 14 stock exchange holidays in 2025, apart from the weekends when the markets remain closed for trading.
October and April will have the most BSE and NSE holidays in 2025, with three holidays each, because of festivals and other observances. March and August have two holidays each, while February, May, November and December will see one holiday each. There are no trading holidays in January, June, July and September.
January 26 is usually a stock market holiday for Republic Day, but since it will fall on a Sunday in 2025, there will be no extra non-trading day.
The first stock market holiday in 2025 will be on Mahashivratri, which falls on Wednesday, Feb. 26. This will be followed by the long weekend holiday of Holi on Friday, March 14 and Id-Ul-Fitr on Monday, March 31. Therefore, there will be two long weekend stock market holidays in March.
In April, the stock markets will be closed for three consecutive days on two occasions. The market will remain closed for trading on April 12 and 13 on weekends followed by a holiday for Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14. Trading activities will also remain suspended on Friday, April 18, for the Good Friday holiday followed by regular closures for weekends on April 19 and April 20.
The next stock market holiday will be on May 1, Maharashtra Day.
The share market holiday list provides investors and traders with clarity, helping them plan their strategies for buying and selling stocks. Indian stock market holidays usually consist of a combination of regional, national, and religious observances, with major events being recognised across the country.
