Inside A Kerala Flood Relief Camp

Over 7.2 lakh people have been reloacted to more than 1,500 relief camps across Kerala.

Kerala, which is facing its worst flood in 100 years, has suffered a loss of Rs 19,512 crore according to initial assessment, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the state to review rescue efforts.

Modi undertook an aerial survey of monsoon ravaged Kerala and announced an immediate assistance of Rs 500 crore. This is in addition to the Rs 100 crore announced by Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Aug. 12. The Kerala government, however, had sought an immediate assistance of Rs 2,000 crore, newswire PTI reported.

The rains have claimed 370 lives. Over 7.24 lakh people have been relocated to 1,545 relief camps across the state, Vijayan said today.
