Congress candidate Shreyas Patel won majority votes from the Lok Sabha constituency of Hassan in Karnataka, as per latest data from Election Commission of India. Patel was leading with 6,72,988 votes, against Prajwal Revanna's 6,30,339 votes. This was a margin of 42,649 votes.
Patel is the grandson of Congress leader G Putta Swamy Gowda, while Revanna is grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and incumbent MP from JD(S).
The Hassan Lok Sabha constituency has seen rivalry between two prominent political clans of Karnataka.
The constituency had recorded a voter turnout of 77.68% in 2019.
The 2019 election saw Deve Gowda's grandson Prajwal Revanna winning the majority of votes from the constituency.
The JD(S) candidate secured 6,76,606 votes in 2019, with BJP's A Manju following behind at 5,35,382 votes. The constituency has been dominated by the Gowda family during the past elections.
There has been reported rivalry that has extended through the years, with Puttaswamy Gowda's daughter-in-law, SG Anupama, contesting against Revanna in the 2008 and 2013 Assembly elections.
