Vodafone Idea introduced on Monday an artificial intelligence-powered spam message identification solution to safeguard its customers from unsolicited communications.
The new solution is designed to proactively detect and flag potential spam messages and since its initial testing phase, the solution has flagged over 24 million spam messages.
“With spam messages on the rise, which are often used as a gateway to frauds, Vi’s Spam SMS solution will safeguard customers by identifying and managing unsolicited and potentially harmful text in real time,” VI said in its press release.
Our AI-powered spam detection technology reinforces our commitment to customer safety by delivering proactive, real-time protection. Vi is focused on staying ahead of these threats and empowering customers with information to make their mobile experience safer, said Jagbir Singh, CTO at VI.

It is crucial to note that earlier this year, Airtel had also launched its own in-house spam detection software, which works dynamically to flag both spam calls and SMSes. Currently, VI's solution is only capable of detecting spam SMSes.
How Does The Spam Detection Solution Work?
VI’s spam detection solution continuously analyses incoming SMS messages using AI algorithms trained on millions of examples. It then identifies potential threats, including fraudulent links, unauthorised promotions, and identity theft attempts.
The system learns from incoming data patterns such as phishing links, unusual sender details, and phrases commonly used in spam messages to enhance its detection capabilities over time.
Resultantly, messages that are identified as spam will be tagged as ‘Suspected Spam’ to warn users instantly, helping them make informed decisions about their communications. The foundation of this approach lies in not only bolstering security but also in guaranteeing the preservation of genuine communications amidst a deluge of unwanted messages.
The solution will continually improve by adapting to new spam trends and improving accuracy and effectiveness through machine learning.
