MeitY Approves Rs 417 Crore Electronics Manufacturing Cluster In UP

The Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) has approved a new Rs 417 crore Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC 2.0) project in Uttar Pradesh, to be developed by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA).

The project is expected to attract Rs 2,500 crore in investment and generate over 15,000 jobs, giving a major boost to India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem.

The cluster, located near the upcoming Noida International Airport, is strategically positioned to benefit from multimodal logistics access and proximity to NCR. It will provide plug-and-play infrastructure, common facilities, and streamlined approvals aimed at attracting both domestic and global electronics players, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Wednesday.

This initiative falls under the second phase of the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster scheme. The earlier EMC 1.0, launched in 2012, had attracted 520 companies and mobilised Rs 30,000 crore in investments nationwide, according to PIB.

The government, in its statement, said EMC 2.0 is designed to support high-growth sub-sectors such as semiconductors, displays, electronic components, and IoT manufacturing. With this, the government aims to reduce import dependency and support its goal of becoming a global hub for electronics production.

The project aligns with the broader goals of Make in India, Digital India, and the Semicon India initiatives. It also comes at a time when several states, including Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, are competing to become electronics manufacturing destinations.
