Both Indian industrialists have entered a coveted list of 24 indivisuals who have been dubbed, "super billionaires" in a new list published by Wall Street Journal.

At present, Elon Musk stands as the richest person ($419 billion) in the world, earning more than $2 million every hour. He is also well-positioned to be the world’s first trillionaire by 2027, as per projections.

Indians On The List Of Superbillionaires

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani and Reliance Industries’ Mukesh Ambani are among the world’s super billionaires. Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries—India’s most valuable company—has a fortune of $84.9 billion, while Adani’s net worth stands at $65.4 billion.

A first-generation billionaire, Adani built his wealth through ventures in energy, infrastructure, logistics, and FMCG. He founded the Adani Group in 1988.

Wealth Over $100 Billion

Bloomberg’s real-time Billionaire index data shows that there are 16 people with wealth of more than $100 billion. The list includes names from investor Google co-founder Warren Buffett, Larry Page, French businessman Bernard Arnault and Steve Ballmer among others. Together, the wealth of 24 super billionaires stands at $3.3 trillion - comparable to France’s nominal GDP.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Musk’s wealth is more than two million times more than what the average American family has.

The meteoric rise in the wealth of super billionaires can be understood from the fact that when Forbes had released its first billionaires list in 1987, there were just 140 people in it, with a combined wealth of $295 billion. At that time, the richest person was Japan’s Yoshiaki Tsutsumi, a real estate tycoon worth $20 billion. Today, most of the super billionaire population largely comprises entrepreneurs who amassed their fortune by capitalizing on the technological revolution.

Technology Sector Reigns Supreme

Bloomberg’s data shows that 10 of the 15 richest people on the planet belong to the technology sector. Retail and energy are the other two major industries that are fueling immense wealth. Industrial, finance, and consumer sectors are also contributing to the rise of the super-rich, signalling where the money is flowing in today’s global economy.
