The world had an interesting week, as Israel and Iran agreed to a ceasefire that was announced by peacemaker US President Donald Trump, while astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla made history by being the first Indian to visit the International Space Station.
On the domestic front, the National Stock Exchange of India announced its Tuesday expiry, and the Indian market saw a buzzing IPO week with major bidding and a listing. Meanwhile, the Air India AI-171 crash investigation took a significant step as data from the black boxes of Flight AI-171 was successfully downloaded, and Novo Nordisk launched its weight-loss drug Wegovy in India this week.
Israel-Iran Ceasefire
Trump pulled off the unexpected and announced the ceasefire between Iran and Israel after nearly two weeks of hostilities on Monday. Trump, who made the surprise announcement on his Truth Social platform days after ordering airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, said the accord is aimed at a lasting end to the fighting.
His announcement came just hours after Iran fired missiles at the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, where US Central Command has its regional headquarters, after promising it would respond "proportionately and decisively" to the weekend bombing by US forces of three nuclear facilities.
Axiom-4 Mission
The Axiom Mission 4, carrying India's Shubhanshu Shukla and three other private astronauts from Poland, the US, and Hungary, has successfully docked at the International Space Station on Thursday.
The mission was successfully launched at 12:01 p.m. IST on Wednesday from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida following multiple delays.
The astronauts plan to spend about two weeks aboard the orbiting laboratory, conducting a mission comprising science, outreach and commercial activities.
NSE Tuesday Expiry
The National Stock Exchange of India has come out with a circular sharing more details about its Tuesday expiry, in an attempt to keep investors informed beforehand. The changes will come into effect from August-end.
The exchange has shared an annexure showing how upcoming contract expiries will shift.
For example, a Nifty weekly contract that was earlier set to expire on Sept. 4, (Thursday) will now expire on Sept. 9 (Tuesday). Similarly, the near-month expiry for several contracts like Nifty, Bank Nifty, and Nifty Financial Services will move from Sept. 25 to Sept. 30.
Air India Crash: Data From Black Boxes Downloaded In Delhi Lab
Data from the black boxes of Air India Flight AI-171 has been successfully downloaded, marking a significant step in the investigation, the government said. Following the accident involving the Air India flight, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau initiated an investigation and constituted a multidisciplinary team on June 13, 2025, in line with prescribed norms.
The team recovered both the Cockpit Voice Recorders and Flight Data Recorders—one from a rooftop at the crash site on June 13, 2025, and the other from the debris on June 16, 2025. The black boxes were transported from Ahmedabad to Delhi by IAF aircraft.
The front black box arrived at the AAIB Lab in Delhi with the DG, and the rear black box was brought by a second AAIB team, reaching the lab on the same day.
Buzzing IPO Market
The primary market investors witnessed an action-packed week as 17 IPOs, including six mainboard IPOs opened for subscription between June 23 and June 27.
Among the mainboard issues, HDB Financial Services is the biggest initial public offering. Kalpataru, Sambhv Steel Tubes and Ellenbarrie Industrial Gases are also the IPOs that launched this week.
Apart from new public issues, the Indian stock market witnessed a flurry of listings this week, including the mainboard issue of Arisinfra Solutions. Samay Project Services, Patil Automation, Eppeltone Engineers, Influx Healthtech are among some of the SME IPOs that listed this week.
Maharashtra Electricity Bills To Get Cheaper
Electricity bills in Maharashtra could be lower after a plan by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. to reduce tariffs was approved by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission. This is the first time electricity tariffs have been slashed in the state.
Power tariff will be reduced 10% in the first year. A plan for total reduction of 26% over the next five years has been approved.
Weightloss Drug
Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk on Tuesday announced the launch of its weight-loss drug Wegovy, an injectable semaglutide, in India. Wegovy is a prescription-only medication that has the potential to improve the quality of life for millions of Indians living with obesity or overweight, the company said.
It is available in five dosing strengths with the convenience of an innovative, easy-to-use pen device. Wegovy will be available in a once-weekly innovative pen device in five dose strengths – 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 1.7 mg and a maintenance dosing of 2.4 mg.
The price for the drug starts at Rs 17,345 per pen for 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg and 1 mg, while 1.7 mg is priced at Rs 24,280 per pen and 2.4 mg is priced at Rs 26,015 per pen.
On The Equity Front
On the domestic equity front, Nifty clocked its best weekly gain in the last six weeks, as both benchmark indices jumped by 2%, led by financial services stocks.
Indian benchmark equity indices closed with gains on Friday, led by share price gains of Jio Financial Services Ltd. and Asian Paints Ltd. This follows the Nifty and BSE ending near their 9-month highs on Thursday.
On Friday, the NSE Nifty 50 ended 88.80 points, or 0.35% higher at 25,637.80, while the BSE Sensex closed 303.03 points, or 0.36% up at 84,058.90. During the day, Nifty rose 0.41% to trade at 25,654.20 and the Sensex advanced 0.40% to 84,089.35.
Panasonic Exits Washing Machine, Refrigerator Segments In India
Japanese multinational electronics manufacturer Panasonic has quit the refrigerators and washing machine categories in India, where it failed to capture any significant market share and reported losses. Panasonic Life Solutions India's market share is 1.8% for washing machines and 0.8% for refrigerators.
"Over the last six years, we have been reporting a loss in sales and profits for refrigerators and washing machines," a spokesperson told NDTV Profit.
Nestle Approves First-Ever Bonus Issue
Nestle India Ltd. on Thursday approved a bonus issue of equity shares in 1:1 ratio. This is the first-ever bonus issue by the FMCG giant. The record date for the bonus will be announced in due course, the company said in an exchange filing.
The Maggi maker added that the bonus is to be credited within two months of approval by the board of directors i.e. on or before Aug. 25. The company's promoters Maggi Enterprises Ltd., which holds 27.5 crore shares or a 28.48% stake in the company, and Nestle SA, which holds 33.1 crore shares or a 34.28% stake in the firm, are expected to benefit from the bonus issue.
