Tata Electronics Pvt. on Friday acquired a controlling 60% stake in Pegatron Technology India Pvt., broadening its footprint on Apple's iPhone manufacturing chain in India.
As part of this deal, Tata Electronics and Pegatron will integrate their teams, while the latter will undergo rebranding. "This acquisition solidifies TEPL’s position as a key player in the Indian electronics manufacturing sector," a statement read.
Earlier this month, Tata Electronics received the greenlight from competition watchdog CCI to acquire the stake.
Tata Electronics has been pushing to become the leader in iPhone manufacturing in the country. In March 2024, the company had acquired another Apple supply chain company, Wistron’s India operations.
Taiwan major Pegatron's India facility is based near Chennai, Tamil Nadu and has around 10,000 employees, manufacturing 50 lakh iPhones annually.
Having acquired Wistron and Pegatron, Tata Electronics is quickly rivalling Taiwanese giant Foxconn in becoming a premium manufacturer for Apple.
