Infosys Ltd. has received regulatory approvals for its binding corporate rules from Germany's Hesse Data Protection Authority in concurrence with the European Data Protection Board, according to an exchange filing on Thursday.
A BCR certification provides organisations a lawful framework within which they can transfer personal data internationally within their group companies.
The IT services firm claimed that it is the "first" India-headquartered company to receive a BCR certification. The software services provider has been granted two sets of BCRs — one as a data controller and the other as a data processor.
The BCR certification has been achieved for both Infosys' own data as well as those of its client data. And, it strengthens Infosys' focus in maintaining consistent standards of data privacy and protection, it said.
The approval from the authorities enables it to seamlessly transfer personal information from Europe to any Infosys Group location globally. The company called it a "milestone achievement" in the current AI-first world "in addressing concerns around cross-border data transfers".
"This accomplishment reinforces Infosys' commitment towards responsible business practices," Chief Compliance Officer Inderpreet Sawhney said. "Infosys is helping clients carry out their business in a compliant environment."
"This recognition is a key differentiator for us when it comes to processing personal data and further affirms our dedication to accountability and trust," Sawhney said.
For the quarter ended September, the IT major's net profit had risen 2.2% to Rs 6,516 crore, while revenue grew 4.3% over the previous three months to Rs 40,986 crore.
Shares of Infosys closed 1.55% lower at Rs 1,948.15 apiece on the BSE, compared to a 1.2% decline in the benchmark Sensex.
