Giorgio Armani, Legendary Fashion Designer, Passes Away At 91

Giorgio Armani, a legendary fashion designer and owner of top luxury brand Armani, died on Thursday, according to a statement issued by his company on social media.

The 91-year-old, who was closely identified with the Italian luxury fashion house, worked "until his final days", Armani posted on Instagram. He dedicated himself to the company, "the collections and the many ongoing future projects", the brand said, adding that he was indefatigable to the end".

Armani, also a revered businessman, was the archetype of Italian style and elegance, and is credited for reimagining much of men's and women's suits in recent decades.

The brand, founded in 1975, is a known manufacturer and retailer of elegant clothing, shoes, accessories and home interiors.

Over the years, Armani expanded his vision "to every aspect of life, anticipating the times with clarity and precision", the company said.

In its tribute, the brand highlighted Armani's ability to connect with audiences far beyond fashion: "Always attentive to the needs of the community, he committed himself on many fronts, above all to his beloved Milan… The company is a reflection, today and always, of his independence of thought and action."

"The burning room will be ready from Saturday, September 6th and will be available until Sunday, September 7th, from 9 am to 6 pm, in Milan, in Via Bergognone 59, near the Armani/Teatro. Due to the expressed will of Mr Armani, the funerals will take place privately," read the post.

The designer had been planning a major event during Milan Fashion Week later this month to mark the 50th anniversary of his signature Giorgio Armani line.
