Cristiano Ronaldo has left Portugal's national team camp in Copenhagen on the eve of a Nations League match against Denmark, raising questions over the 41-year-old's international future. Here is what is known.
What Happened?
Ronaldo announced his exit in an Instagram post on Wednesday evening. He left the Copenhagen stadium before Portugal's scheduled eve-of-match training.
He said he would explain his reasons "in time" and wished his team-mates luck. Portugal face Denmark on Thursday.
What Triggered The Rift?
Tensions began on Sunday, when Ronaldo was an unused substitute in Portugal's 2-1 win over Norway. Reports said he went straight to the dressing room after the game, visibly frustrated.
Bolavip reported that the omission ended his long run of appearances for Portugal. He then missed the group session on Tuesday during a stop in Malmö, Sweden.
What Did Jorge Jesus Say?
Head coach Jorge Jesus, who also manages Ronaldo at Saudi club Al Nassr, denied any rift and rejected claims that the forward refused to train.
He explained that he had not known how the game would unfold and had not used Ronaldo.

Goal reported that Jesus also admitted mishandling the player's warm-up, and that he had said Ronaldo would take part in Wednesday's session shortly before the player left.
Why Does The Press Conference Matter?
In his post, Ronaldo said his decision followed Jesus's press conference and a conversation with Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença. He has not said which comments upset him.
Is Ronaldo Retiring From International Football?
That is not confirmed. Portuguese outlet O Jogo reported that Ronaldo no longer wants to play for Portugal again, but neither Ronaldo nor the federation has said so.
Outlook India noted he is still part of the squad and chasing more international goals. Defender Ruben Dias has publicly defended him.

What Next?
Ronaldo's explanation is awaited, as is a federation response on whether he will return for later fixtures. Portugal must play Denmark without him, and Jesus's position will be watched closely given his dual role as club and national coach.
