Important Days Of The Holy Week For Christians

  • It starts with Palm Sunday, when Jesus entered Jerusalem like a king. This is the Sunday before Easter Sunday.

  • It leads into the Paschal Triduum, a three-day period that includes:

  • Holy Thursday – remembering the Last Supper Jesus had with his disciples.

  • Good Friday – this marks the day Jesus was crucified and died.

  • Holy Saturday night (Easter Vigil) – the most important celebration, marking Jesus' resurrection.

A day later, Christians worldwide indulge in feasts, prayers and celebrations to commemorate the joy of Jesus’ resurrection on the occasion of Easter Sunday.

Christians believe that through his resurrection, Jesus conquered death and unlocked the gates of Heaven for all of humanity. They mark the day with a subdued atmosphere, engaging in prayers and charity. However, the occasion is still known as "Good Friday" as Christians consider that Jesus’ sacrifice was part of God's plan for humanity.

To mark Jesus’ last meal, called the 'Last Supper', Christians share bread and wine together. Such feasts are organised in a church service called Holy Communion, Eucharist, or Mass, meant to remember the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus.
