A US-based Indian-origin entrepreneur's X post revealing how a “cold email” he once sent to Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff turned into a life-changing moment has gone viral. Mehul Nariyawala, co-founder of Matic Robots, has said he sent a “cold email” to Benioff in 2005, and the CEO replied within an hour.
“I rarely share this, but 21 years ago I cold emailed Marc Benioff for a job at Salesforce…He responded in an hour. It changed my life, so this is a full circle moment. very grateful Marc loves Matic Robots,” Nariyawala wrote on X last week, sharing the screenshots of the exchange.
The email was sent when Salesforce was still expanding as a cloud software company. Nariyawala, a second-year MBA student at the University of Chicago at the time, titled his email to Benioff as 'A request for a dream job'.

In the email, Nariyawala praised Salesforce and Benioff, calling the company transformative. “I am a second year MBA student at University of Chicago, and I am creative, exuberant and entrepreneurial,” his email read.
He further said: “My exuberance helps me lead and get my team excited. At salesforce.com, I will achieve exceptional results and make you proud. I appreciate your time, help, and especially your consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.”
The two screenshots, shared by Nariyawala, show he sent the email around 10:30 p.m., and he received a reply by 11:46 p.m with Benioff acknowledging his note and saying: “Thank you for your note. Erin Flynn will take a look at this for us.”
Nariyawala's recent X post came after Benioff responded to his update on Matic Robots' latest milestone of $60 million in new funding.
“Matic is a product company. We use robotics and AI to solve real customer problems, and we are on a mission to eliminate the drudgery of home chores and take our precious time back. We've shipped over 6,000 robots. They've cleaned over 110M square feet, travelled over 80K miles inside homes, and saved over 31 years of human time,” the announcement read.
Benioff responded to Nariyawala's post, saying he also loves his Matic. “Congrats Mehul. I love my Matic. Need a bigger water dish so it can run autonomously for at least a week at a time,” he posted on X, showing support for the product's growth.
As the post gained traction, many on X praised Nariyawala.
Sharing a similar experience, another user noted: “This is awesome. Cold messaging got me every job I've had in tech. Shocking how few people are willing to take the risk.”
