Apple is preparing a major overhaul for its Siri voice assistant, including testing a standalone Siri app and new “Ask Siri” and “Write with Siri” features that will integrate across its software ecosystem as part of a broader artificial intelligence upgrade, a new report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman notes. Citing people familiar with the plans, Gurman wrote that Apple is modernising Siri with a fresh design and a more chatbot-like experience, similar to tools such as ChatGPT or Claude.
The updated Siri is expected to be unveiled on June 8 at the company's Worldwide Developers Conference and will arrive later this year with iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27.
This could represent one of the biggest changes to Siri since its launch more than a decade ago. The revamped Siri aims to feel like a full-fledged AI chatbot rather than a built-in voice tool. It is expected to gain improved capabilities, including deeper control over other apps and features on iOS, macOS, and iPadOS. Its ability to handle complex tasks using a user's personal data from emails, messages, notes, and more will also be enhanced, the report indicates.
The “Ask Siri” feature will help users get answers through Siri's better on-screen awareness, also allowing them to summarise or act on content within apps. The “Write with Siri” option will be integrated into the top of the Apple keyboard and will streamline the use of Apple Intelligence's Writing Tools, the report added.
Additionally, the new version will better summarise daily news from Apple News and deliver more detailed web-sourced responses, including summaries, structured points, and images.
