After three consecutive losses in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) could be in for a major boost as injured stars MS Dhoni and Dewald Brevis are nearing full fitness ahead of their upcoming clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday.
According to a report by The Indian Express, Dhoni is expected to undergo a fitness test in the next few days. If he clears it, the 44-year-old is likely to make his first appearance of the season at Chepauk.
Dhoni, who led CSK to five IPL titles, has been sidelined since injuring his calf during the pre-season camp and has not travelled with the squad for away games. He was also absent at Chepauk during CSK's home fixture against Punjab Kings last Friday.

Although he has been attending training sessions regularly, protocol has prevented him from being present at the stadium on match days.
In the lead-up to the Punjab game, Dhoni trained at the MAC B ground. On the eve of the game, he batted again on the main stadium's practice pitches without any visible discomfort. Despite the progress, the team has been cautious, allowing him adequate time to regain full fitness. Now, there is growing optimism that Dhoni could be available for selection on Saturday.
CSK have received encouraging news on South Africa's Brevis as well. The explosive middle-order batter, who suffered a side strain during the pre-season camp, has missed all three matches so far. Though he travelled with the team to Guwahati and Bengaluru, he wasn't included in the XII as he had not yet reached full match fitness.
After the loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, head coach Stephen Fleming confirmed that Brevis is getting closer to returning.
“We hope he is right for the next game. We have five days before that match, and we've taken a conservative approach. Hopefully these days go as planned and he is ready to go,” Fleming said. “He's been a big loss, and we are looking forward to having him back.”
Brevis' availability would be a significant lift for CSK, whose middle order has struggled in his absence.
CSK's disappointing start to IPL 2026
The five-time champions have endured a tough season so far. Their season began with an eight-wicket loss against Rajasthan Royals. The defeat against Rajasthan was followed by a five-wicket loss against PBKS. On Sunday, CSK were beaten by arch-rivals and defending champions RCB by 43 runs.
Three defeats in as many games means that the team is lingering at the bottom of the IPL points table.
