On Friday, the Bombay High Court noted an alarming number of fatalities caused due to overcrowding of local trains (almost 10 per day) and suggested the Central Railways look into the possibilities of installing "automatic closed doors".

A bench comprising of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Sandeep Marne was hearing a Public Interest Litigation concerning commuter deaths due to railway accidents, NDTV reported. The judges acknowledged the unfortunate incident of June 9 near Mumbra in Thane district, where 13 passengers fell from a moving train—reportedly resulting in five fatalities and nine injuries.

The passengers were believed to be hanging on the doors while travelling. The railway administration was alerted about the incident early in the morning, soon after it took place. Currently, both the police and railway authorities are present on site, investigating the cause of the accident.

After the incident Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway Line Swanip Dhanraj Nila spoke on the matter and informed NDTV that the railway authorities have decided that "all rakes under manufacturing for Mumbai Suburban will have automatic door closer facilities."

Besides, all rakes in service will be taken into consideration for retrofitment, he had said.

After the incident, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had expressed condolence. "The incident of some people falling from a local train between Diva and Mumbra stations, resulting in the death of a few individuals, is extremely unfortunate. I offer my heartfelt condolences to them. We share in the grief of their families," he had said in an X post.

The injured have been promptly admitted to Shivaji Hospital and Thane Civil Hospital, where treatment is underway. The local administration is coordinating efforts. I pray to God for the speedy recovery of the injured.

An investigation has been initiated by the railway department to determine the exact cause of this incident.
