Former Chief of Army Staff, General Bikram Singh, has highlighted the increasing violence and strategic readiness of Indian forces amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. "We have seen the rise in violence in the last 36-48 hours," he stated, emphasising the significant uptick in operations.

General Singh noted that despite India's policy of not escalating the conflict, Pakistan's aggressive response has opened up multiple fronts. "They have taken a large number of our targets, our vulnerable areas, vulnerable points… and it is not only along the Line of Control; they have come into the area of the international border," he explained.

Various areas were targeted last night by the enemy using missiles, drones, and long-range artillery, particularly along the national highway connecting Pathankot and Jammu, he said.

"The operations along the Line of Control have also gone up," General Singh added, assuring that Indian troops are providing a proper response.

He stressed that the situation is being managed both tactically and operationally, but highlighted the need for strategic preparedness. "Our forces are poised for any escalation, which is bound to take place," he said, noting the uncertainty surrounding the objectives of the Pakistani leadership.

General Singh also called for a shift in India's defensive stance. "At some stage, we will have to define our threshold of tolerance because this cannot go on in an open-ended manner. They hit us, we hit them...I think we will have to get onto a more proactive mode," he asserted.

Tensions between India and Pakistan remain high following a series of cross-border strikes and retaliatory attacks. On Thursday night, India intercepted multiple drones and missiles launched by Pakistan targeting key military sites in Jammu, Pathankot, Udhampur, and Amritsar. The Indian defence ministry confirmed that all incoming threats were neutralised and emphasised that the country remains fully prepared to safeguard its sovereignty.

India’s Operation Sindoor, which began on May 7, targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK. These strikes were in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the loss of 26 lives. The situation remains volatile, with both nations on high alert and the international community closely monitoring developments.
