Gift Nifty Check

The Indian stock market is expected to extend rally and open higher on Monday, supported by a sharp fall in crude oil prices. The trends on Gift Nifty also signal a gap-up start for the Indian benchmark indices, Nifty 50 and Sensex, today.

The Gift Nifty was trading around 23,298 level, a premium of nearly 200 points from the Nifty futures' previous close.

Asian Market Check

Asian markets traded largely lower on Monday, November 2, tracking losses on Wall Street, as investors assessed geopolitical developments in the Middle East and awaited a fresh batch of manufacturing activity data.

Japan's Nikkei 225 and Topix declined 0.42% and 0.53%, respectively, while Australia's S&P/ASX 200 slipped 0.37%. South Korea's Kospi traded largely flat, while New Zealand's NZX 50 fell 1.19%, when last checked.

Commodity Check

Crude oil prices halted their rally on Monday, after media reports indicated that US President Donald Trump may be looking to take the negotiations route before resuming strikes on Iran.

Brent Crude fell 1.82% to $111.36 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate was down 2% to $102.05 per barrel.

Trump reportedly told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he prefers diplomacy over attacks to resolve the Iran conflicting, causing concerns in the mind of the latter.

Gold along with other metals, fell sharply as the PCE inflation in the US rose 0.5% in September, which is 3.6% higher on a year-on-year basis. Rising inflation raises the expectation of further rate hikes in the near term by the US Fed to curb inflation, which in turn can increase the interest rate level, weighing on non-interest-yielding assets such as gold and silver.

Gold futures expiring in December declined 2.9% in a single session to Rs 1,38,249 per 10 grams on the Multi Commodity Exchange on Oct. 30. Silver declined more sharply than gold, dipping to Rs 1,79,132 at the close on Oct. 30, declining around 5.5% during that session itself.

Stock Market Recap

The Indian stock market benchmark indices, the Sensex and Nifty 50, ended higher on Friday, October 30, the final trading session of the month, led by gains in IT, pharma and healthcare stocks.

The Sensex gained 308.49 points, or 0.42%, to close at 74,459.53, while the Nifty 50 settled 116.35 points, or 0.51%, higher at 23,053.10. The Bank Nifty index slipped 222.70 points, or 0.41%, to end at 54,686.95.

US Stock Market Recap

US stocks fell sharply on Friday, with the Nasdaq suffering its biggest one-day percentage drop since early June, after disappointing results from Intel and Amazon deepened worries about AI spending.
