The release of the much-anticipated Malayalam film Patriot has been pushed back, with the makers announcing a revised date. Featuring the iconic pairing of superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal, the film was earlier scheduled to release on April 23, 2026, but will now arrive in theatres on May 1, 2026.
The announcement was made on April 1, when both lead actors took to social media to inform fans about the change. A day earlier, producer Anto Joseph had addressed the delay on his Instagram, explaining that the decision was taken due to "unforeseen circumstances". He also reassured audiences that the team is focused on delivering a polished final product, adding that they are working towards achieving the "highest quality possible".
Directed by Mahesh Narayanan, Patriot is a spy thriller set against a political backdrop. The film has been generating steady excitement ever since its announcement, mainly due to the rare on-screen collaboration between two of Malayalam cinema's biggest stars.
As part of its promotional campaign, the team has planned a special trailer launch on April 4, 2026, at 6 pm. In a unique move, the trailer will be unveiled simultaneously in two locations. Mammootty will interact with fans at Ragam Theatre in Thrissur, while Mohanlal will host a parallel event at Kavitha Theatre in Ernakulam.

This dual launch is expected to draw significant fan attention and celebration. Adding to the buzz, Mammootty took to social media to personally invite fans to the Thrissur event, promising a special on-ground interaction.
The teaser, which was released in October 2025, offered only brief visuals without revealing much of the storyline. However, it hinted at an intense narrative with high-stakes drama and a strong political backdrop, adding to the intrigue around the film.

Alongside Mammootty and Mohanlal, the film features a strong ensemble cast including Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, Nayanthara, and Darshana Rajendran. The supporting lineup also includes Revathy, Zarin Shihab, and Rajiv Menon.
The film's music is composed by Sushin Shyam, while Manush Nandan handles the visuals. Editing is jointly managed by Mahesh Narayanan and Rahul Radhakrishnan.
With a new release date locked and promotions underway, Patriot continues to be one of the most-awaited Malayalam releases of 2026.
