Shah Rukh Khan's upcoming film King has reportedly sold its all-India theatrical distribution rights to Pen Marudhar Entertainment for Rs 250 crore, according to a report by Bollywood Hungama. A source quoted by the entertainment portal said the distributor secured the rights after a competitive bidding process that drew interest from several leading players, including A.A. Films, Jio Studios (Distribution), PVR INOX Pictures, Yash Raj Films (Distribution), and Dharma Productions (Distribution).
The source cited by the portal added Pen Marudhar's long-standing association with Shah Rukh Khan's banner played a key role in the deal.
"Pen Marudhar has acquired the theatrical distribution rights of 'King' for a sum of Rs 250 crore. The distributor has a long- standing association with Shah Rukh Khan's banner, having released films like 'Jawan', 'Dunki', 'Zero', 'Badla', 'Ittefaq' and many more," a trade source told Bollywood Hungama.

'King' is expected to hit cinemas during the crowded Christmas season, where it could face competition from major Hollywood tentpoles such as 'Jumanji', 'Avengers: Doomsday' and 'Dune 3'. According to the report, Khan was keen to secure a strong distribution partner capable of mounting a nationwide release during a highly competitive festive window.
The film has generated considerable buzz as it marks Khan's return to the big screen following his blockbuster 2023 run with 'Pathaan', 'Jawan' and 'Dunki'. It also reunites him with 'Pathaan' director Siddharth Anand.
Made on a reported budget of Rs 400 crore, the action entertainer features an ensemble cast including Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Abhay Verma and Arshad Warsi, among others.
The project also stars Suhana Khan alongside her father after her acting debut in 'The Archies'. 'King' is expected to release in theatres on Dec. 24.
