US President Donald Trump has announced the appointment of political commentator, radio host and podcaster Dan Bongino as the deputy director of the US intelligence unit – Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). He will work under Indian-origin Kash Patel, who was confirmed as the FBI director last week.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social on Sunday, Trump described Bongino as "a man of incredible love and passion" for America. He expressed confidence that Bongino would do a great job at the FBI and called his appointment "good news for law enforcement and the American justice system."
Highlighting Bongino's achievements, Trump said that he has a Masters Degree in Psychology from C.U.N.Y. and an MBA from Penn State. He was a member of the New York Police Department.
"Thank you, Mr President, Attorney General Bondi, and Director Patel," Dan Bonginow wrote in a post on X, thanking Donald Trump.
Who Is New FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino?
Dan Bongino, 50, previously worked for New York-based Fox News. He hosts the popular daily podcast The Dan Bongino Show and has worked as a New York City police officer. He also served in the US Secret Service, protecting two US Presidents: George W. Bush and Barack Obama.
Trump had also appeared on his show before the presidential elections held on November 5.
The Dan Bongino Show was recently ranked as the 56th most popular podcast in the US on Spotify. On his appointment, Trump remarked that the podcaster is "prepared to give up" his program for his new role.
Bongino left Fox News in 2023 after a decade with the network due to contract disagreements. He was best known for hosting the Saturday night show Unfiltered, which premiered in 2021.
Born in Queens, New York, the Italian descent commentator is married to Paula Andrea. The couple has two daughters. Bongino has run for Congress three times and is known for clashing with Trump critics on social media. One of his most famous feuds is with horror author Stephen King.
