Ambareesh Murty, the co-founder of online furniture marketplace Pepperfry Ltd., has died in Leh. He was 51 years old.
"Extremely devastated to inform that my friend, mentor, brother, soulmate @AmbareeshMurty is no more. Lost him yesterday (sic) night to a cardiac arrest at Leh," the company's other co-founder, Ashish Shah, tweeted on Tuesday.
Pepperfry was founded in July 2011 by Murty and Shah, and has quickly grown to be one of India’s largest furniture e-tailers. The company was also looking to file for an IPO last year.
Murty, also an angel investor, was an alumnus of IIM Calcutta, 1996 batch and completed his Bachelors in Engineering from the Delhi College of Engineering in 1994.
He had 27 years of general management experience in FMCG, financial services and internet industries. Murty started his career with Cadbury in their sales and marketing division, moving onto short stints in ICICI Prudential, Britannia and Levi’s.
