Indian pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been nominated for two prestigious annual cricket awards—the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2024 and the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year 2024.
Bumrah is nominated for the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year alongside other prominent players, including England's Joe Root and Harry Brook, and Sri Lanka's Kamindu Mendis, according to an International Cricket Council press release.
In 2024, Bumrah played in 13 Tests, taking 71 wickets and finishing the year with more Test wickets than any other pace bowler.
His role as the Indian skipper in the absence of Rohit Sharma during the ongoing Border- Gavaskar series showcased his captaincy skills. He guided India to a 295-run win during the first test in Perth.
In the year so far, Bumrah has picked up 71 Test wickets in 13 matches, at an average of 14.92.
Along with Brook and Root, Bumrah has secured a double nomination by earning a place in the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for Men’s Cricketer of the Year, alongside Australia's Travis Head.
His exceptional performance during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in June also played a crucial role in India lifting the prestigious trophy. Bumrah was named Player of the Tournament, taking 15 wickets at an average of 8.24.
The Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy is awarded annually by the International Cricket Council and is one of the most prestigious ICC Awards. It was first presented in 2004 to Rahul Dravid.
