The United States has designated The Resistance Front as a Foreign Terrorist Organization and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist, according to a statement by the State Department on Thursday.
The TRF, a front for Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, had claimed responsibility for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 civilians. The attack marked one of the deadliest on civilians in India. The group has also claimed responsibility for multiple attacks on Indian security forces.
“These actions taken by the Department of State demonstrate the Trump Administration’s commitment to protecting our national security interests, countering terrorism, and enforcing President Trump’s call for justice for the Pahalgam attack,” said Secretary of State Marco Rubio in a statement.

The designations were made under Section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act and Executive Order 13224. The Department also reviewed and maintained LeT’s existing designation. The changes will take effect upon publication in the Federal Register.
The announcement follows India’s launch of Operation Sindoor, a retaliatory strike against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, days after the Pahalgam attack.
