The Dharavi Social Mission opened its first-ever Resource Centre on Jan. 8, 2025. Located in the heart of Dharavi, this facility aims to serve as an integrated hub, offering a range of services focused on education, health, employment, and skill development.

The initiative, which is a part of DSM's broader commitment to the community, will provide access to vital resources that can create opportunities for the residents of Dharavi, a densely populated and often marginalised area of Mumbai.

"We are thrilled to finally set up our base in Dharavi and work more closely with its residents. We have strong reasons to believe that there is lot more in the youth of Dharavi than what meets the eye. Our sincere efforts will be to tap the talent, hone the skills, sharpen the knowledge, improve physical and mental health, and make Dharavikars better in their personal and professional lives," said a spokesperson for DSM. "By honing their talents and offering access to new opportunities, we can help improve the personal and professional lives of Dharavikars."

One of DSM's primary objectives is to provide 10,000 skilling opportunities and create at least 3,000 jobs for residents by the end of 2025. Through its various programs, DSM has already made strides in fostering community development. Programs like "Yuva Samvad" have engaged over 180 young participants, encouraging them to explore new career avenues, while various small, medium, and large Self-Help Groups have received guidance on scaling their businesses and improving digital literacy.

In addition to skill-building and job placement, the DSM is also focusing on the mental and physical wellbeing of Dharavikars. Through initiatives such as stress management and pranic healing sessions, DSM offers a holistic approach to improving the health of the community. Moreover, the 'Lok Vikas' initiative has provided free government health benefits worth over 10 crore rupees to senior citizens, with nearly 200 residents utilising benefits from around 177 government schemes.

By offering a one-stop location for education, job training, health services, and more through the Resource Centre, DSM hopes to make it easier for residents to access the resources they need to improve their lives.

"Our aim is to work hand-in-hand with Dharavikars, understand their needs and aspirations while empowering them to achieve a better quality of life," said the spokesperson. "We aspire to create 10,000 skilling opportunities, create jobs for 3,000 or more residents and double the Ayushman Bharat beneficiaries by the end of 2025."
