The 7th edition of Poshan Pakhwada will be held from April 8 to 22. The annual government-backed event is aimed at promoting healthy and nutritious diets for children and women.
The Poshan Pakhwada initiative focuses on promoting the use of both technology and traditional practices to encourage healthy eating habits.
This year’s theme highlights the importance of the first 1,000 days of a child’s life — a critical period for development, the Ministry of Women and Child Development said in a press release on Tuesday.
For the project, the government has divided the first 1,000 days into three periods: 270, 365, and 365 days, to implement specific interventions.
“With themes centred on maternal and infant nutrition, digital accessibility for beneficiaries, and combating childhood obesity, the 7th Edition of Poshan Pakhwada focuses on outcome-based interventions to enhance nutritional well-being,” the release read.
Poshan Tracker App Importance
A particular focus of the Poshan Pakhwada campaign remains integrating beneficiaries with the Poshan Tracker application and promoting its use. Through this application, the nutrition services provided at the Anganwadi Centres across India can be tracked in real-time.
Launched on March 1, 2021, Poshan Tracker is an AI-powered platform that enables Anganwadi Workers to manage attendance, growth monitoring, meals, and education efficiently using smartphones. Beneficiaries can now self-register through the Poshan Tracker Web App. The move is aimed at increasing direct accessibility to the app while reducing reliance on Anganwadi workers for registrations.
Key Activities Under Poshan Pakhwada
Key activities under Poshan Pakhwada include prioritising antenatal care, proper nutrition, and regular health checkups. Participants are encouraged to pledge for a healthier future by eating a balanced diet, staying active, and spreading awareness. Other activities include drinking eight glasses of water daily and registering on the Poshan Tracker App.
Poshan Pakhwada also focuses on dealing with childhood obesity. India has recorded an increase in overweight children under five years, rising from 2.1% to 3.4%, a comparison between NFHS-4 and NFHS-5 showed.
During the two-week Poshan Pakhwada campaign, all ministries and government departments are engaged in organising various activities to increase sensitivity among communities.
The ministry said that during this period, a special focus will remain on the implementation of the Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) Protocol. A globally endorsed approach towards the management of malnutrition, this strategy helps in early detection and community-based management of malnutrition.
