A viral video showing ticketless passengers overcrowding the Lucknow-Haridwar Vande Bharat Express has sparked outrage and prompted a response from Indian Railways.
The video, initially shared by a passenger named Archit Nagar and reposted by the account Indian Tech & Infra on X, shows passengers crammed into an AC coach of train number 22545. Nagar reported the Dehradun-bound train was overcrowded from the source station itself.
The five-second clip, which has garnered over a million views, raises questions on how ticketless passengers were allowed to board.
Railway Seva, the official support account for passengers, responded to the viral post saying, "We're listening and will do our best to help. The concerned officials are being notified." The divisional railway manager (DRM) of the Lucknow division of Northern Railway was also tagged in the response.
Netizens reacted strongly to the video, with many demanding strict penalties for the ticketless passengers. One user suggested, "Fine each passenger without ticket minimum Rs 1 lakh."
Other users pointed out this issue wasn't isolated as similar incidents had been reported on various trains.
Another user highlighted the underlying issues, saying, "It shows desperation of passengers holding second class tickets as railways has reduced such coaches and increased air conditioned coaches."
