India-Pakistan Conflict: What We Know From Overnight Developments So Far

Tensions between India and Pakistan remain high following a series of cross-border strikes and retaliatory attacks. On Thursday night, India intercepted multiple drones and missiles launched by Pakistan targeting key military sites in Jammu, Pathankot, Udhampur and Amritsar.

India’s defence ministry said all incoming threats were neutralised and that the country remains fully prepared to safeguard its sovereignty.

The developments came after India had conducted Operation Sindoor, which began on May 7, targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and areas under its administration in Kashmir. These strikes followed the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 people were killed.

The Minister of External Affairs will hold a press briefing on Friday morning.

Here is what we know so far from the overnight developments:

• US Vice President JD Vance has said the United States will not get involved in the conflict between India and Pakistan, calling it a war that is “fundamentally none of our business.”

• India on Thursday night neutralised Pakistan’s attempt to attack military installations in Jammu, Pathankot, Udhampur and other locations using missiles and drones.

• Sirens and explosions were reported in Akhnoor, Samba, Baramulla, Kupwara and several other areas during India’s night aerial surveillance along the Pakistan border.

• The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) banned visitor entry at airport terminal buildings across India.

• BCAS also made Secondary Ladder Point Checking (SLPC) compulsory for all flights at all airports.

• BCAS cited the recent attack in Pahalgam and the heightened security scenario for enhancing aviation security across installations including airports, airfields, helipads and training institutes.

• Twenty-four airports across India remain closed under Operation Sindoor, following Indian armed forces’ strikes on terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir on Wednesday.

• India is expected to raise concerns at the IMF over Pakistan’s bailout package during a board meeting in Washington on Friday.

• Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said India’s executive director at the IMF will present the country’s position on the matter.
