The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning about heavy rain in Mumbai and other coastal districts of Maharashtra, such as Raigad and Ratnagiri, among others, on June 16.
The weather agency has issued an orange alert for Mumbai for the next three hours, predicting heavy to very heavy rain in several parts of the city.
Following the heavy rainfall alert, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued emergency helpline numbers for the residents.
"The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (Mumbai city and suburbs) for the next 3 hours. For help in an emergency or official information, contact the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's main control room helpline number 1916," the BMC said in a post on X on Monday morning.
Earlier, visuals emerged from BPT, Wadala East, and other parts of Mumbai showing the city being battered by heavy rains, as commuters struggled to get back to work on Monday.
Besides coastal districts, Pune and Satara are also on a yellow alert till 10 a.m., according to the IMD. No alert has been issued for the remaining districts of Maharashtra.

Overall, Mumbai has been put on a yellow alert by the IMD for the whole day as "heavy" rainfall at a few places is "very likely" in the city. Palghar and Thane are also on a yellow alert. Meanwhile, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg coastal districts will remain on an orange alert. The IMD has issued a red alert for Raigad during this period.
The IMD has warned about isolated very heavy rainfall in central Maharashtra, Goa and the Konkan region between June 16 and 18. Further, isolated rainfall is expected to continue in central Maharashtra, Konkan and Goa from June 18 to 21, according to the weather agency.

According to IMD's Santacruz weather station, Mumbai is expected to experience rainfall till June 22.
June 16: Generally cloudy sky with heavy rainfall expected (orange alert).
June 17- 19: Generally cloudy sky with intermittent rain (no warning).
June 19-22: Rain is likely in the city with no specific warning.
