Centre Approves Two Railway Projects Worth Rs 6,798 Crore

The two projects, spanning eight districts across three states, will expand the Indian Railways network by approximately 313 km.

The Union cabinet approved two projects worth Rs 6,798 crore of the Ministry of Railways.

The approved projects include doubling of the Narkatiaganj-Raxaul-Sitamarhi-Darbhanga and Sitamarhi-Muzaffarpur sections, covering 256 km and construction of a new line between Errupalem and Namburu via Amaravati, covering 57 km. 

The doubling of Narkatiaganj-Raxaul-Sitamarhi-Darbhanga and Sitamarhi-Muzaffarpur Section will help enhance the connectivity to Nepal, northeast India and border areas. It will also help improve the movement of passenger trains along with goods.

The new rail project Errupalem-Amaravati-Namburu will travel through NTR Vijayawada and Guntur districts of Andhra Pradesh and Khammam district of Telangana. 

The two projects, spanning eight districts across three states—Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Bihar—will expand the Indian Railways network by approximately 313 km.

The project will also provide connectivity to around 168 villages and about 12 lakh people with nine new stations.

These essential routes facilitate the transport of commodities like agricultural products, fertilizer, coal, iron ore, steel, and cement. The environmentally friendly railways will help achieve climate goals, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 168 crore kg.

The new line will provide direct connectivity to Amaravati, the proposed capital of Andhra Pradesh, improving mobility for industries and residents, and enhancing service reliability for Indian Railways.

These projects align with the prime minister’s vision of a New India, promoting self-reliance and creating employment opportunities in the region. They stem from the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan for multi-modal connectivity, enabling seamless movement of people, goods, and services through integrated planning.
