All banks in Tripura will remain closed on Monday, April 21, on account of the regional festival of Garia Puja, according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) calendar.
Tripura is set to celebrate one of the most significant festivals, Garia Puja, on Monday. Lord Garia, the deity of health and livestock, is considered a significant figure in the north-eastern state.
To mark the day, the state government observes a public holiday, which means that government offices, post offices, schools, and other public institutions will remain closed. All banks, including both public and private sector banks, will also remain closed on this day in Tripura.
The Reserve Bank of India calendar, followed by all banks in India, also includes April 21 as a holiday in Tripura because of Garia Puja.
How Do People Celebrate Garia Puja?
In Tripura, the revered figure Lord Garia is symbolised through a bamboo pole. People worship the god with flowers and livestock as they seek blessings for wealth and prosperity. Many ingredients are central to this puja, including wine, earthen pots and eggs. In many parts of the state, people also sacrifice a fowl before the deity.
A Garia Carnival is also organised to mark the community celebration on this day. People also mark the festival through community dances, singing and feasts to appease the god.
