Health insurance has been a priority of the central government under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). The scheme, valid for all citizens above the age of 70, entitles beneficiaries to free medical treatment of up to Rs 5 lakh, regardless of their economic status.
The scheme entitles senior citizens to medical treatment at 30,072 empanelled hospitals from both public and private hospitals across the country.
To be eligible for the scheme, beneficiaries must have an Ayushman Vay Vandana Card.
Eligibility Criteria For Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana
Any Indian citizen aged 70 or above is eligible. Citizens already covered under Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY can get this as an additional top-up, doubling their coverage. Individuals covered by private insurance or other government health schemes are eligible for the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana as well, but must choose between existing benefits and this offering.
To enroll in the scheme, Aadhaar-based e-KYC is mandatory. Only the Aadhaar card of the beneficiary is needed for the enrolment process. If only the birth year is mentioned on the Aadhaar card, January 1 of the next year will be taken as the date of birth.
Every eligible senior citizen will have a distinct Ayushman card. Applications for the Ayushman card can be submitted online via the official website portal at www.beneficiary.nha.gov.in or the Ayushman App.
Beneficiaries can access medical treatment from the day they are enrolled. There is no waiting period for any disease, including pre-existing conditions.
