Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty 50 continued their upward trajectory to close higher for the sixth consecutive trading session on Tuesday.
Nifty 50 closed 0.17%, or 41.70 points higher at 24,167. While the Sensex closed 0.24%, or 187.09 points up at 79,595.59.
HDFC Bank Ltd., ITC Ltd. and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. emerged as the top gainers in point contribution for the day. On the other hand, Larsen & Toubro Ltd., PowerGrid Corp. and Reliance Industries Ltd. were the worst performers on the Nifty 50.
HDFC Bank Ltd. was among the top gainers as the private lender contributed the most in points to the Nifty 50's gains. The Nifty Bank closed 0.62% higher.
Following the trend, ITC Ltd. closed 2.36% higher at Rs 432.85 apiece. Intraday, the stock rose as much as 2.83%. Following closely behind, Hindustan Unilever rose to close 2.21% up at Rs 2,403 apiece.
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. closed 1.70% higher at Rs 2,811.10 apiece. The stock rose 2.10% intraday. The next biggest gainer of the trading session was ICICI Bank Ltd. as the stock climbed to close 0.30% up at Rs 1,414 apiece.
The biggest laggard for the trading session was Infosys Ltd., as the stock declined 1.93% at market close to Rs 1,423 apiece. It was closely followed by Bharti Airtel Ltd. and Reliance Industries, which declined 1.87% at Rs 1,848.20 apiece and 0.50% at Rs 1,289 per share, respectively.
