FPIs Stay Net Sellers For 21st Straight Session, Offload Equities Worth Rs 1,189 Crore

Foreign portfolio investors stayed net sellers of Indian equities for the 21st straight session on Friday as they sold stocks worth approximately Rs 1,189 crore.

Domestic institutional investors were net buyers for the 32nd consecutive session as they mopped up equities worth Rs 2,232.2 crore, according to provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.

The FPIs sold stake worth Rs 1,931 crore on Thursday. So far in January, the FPIs have sold equities worth Rs 78,027 crore, according to the National Securities Depository Ltd.'s data.

The Indian equity benchmark indices closed higher four days in a row, but extended its monthly losing streak.

The NSE Nifty 50 ended 258.90 points or 1.11% up at 23,508.40, and the BSE Sensex ended 740.76 points or 0.97% higher at 77,500.57.

The NSE Nifty Bank also closed higher at 49,587.20, up 0.56%. The stock market will remain open on Feb. 1, on account of Budget 2025 that is set to take place.

Since October, the FPIs have majorly been net sellers as they offloaded stocks worth Rs 7,292.3 crore. The DIIs stayed net buyers during the period and bought stocks worth Rs 5.32 lakh crore, according to provisional data from the NSE compiled by NDTV Profit.

In December alone, however, the FPIs were net buyers, having mopped up Indian equities worth Rs 15,446 crore, according to NSDL data.
