Overseas investors stayed net sellers for the fifth consecutive day and collectively offloaded stocks worth Rs 15,828 crore. Domestic institutional investors stayed net buyers for the fourth straight day.
The foreign portfolio investors offloaded stocks worth approximately Rs 3,597.8 crore on Friday, according to provisional data from the National Stock Exchange. The DIIs bought stocks worth Rs 1,374.4 crore.
The FPIs have offloaded Rs 15,828.1 crore so far this week, while the DIIs have bought shares worth Rs 11,873.9 crore. In December so far, the FPIs have offloaded stocks worth Rs 4,121.2 crore, while the DIIs have bought stocks worth Rs 16,546.4 crore.
In November, foreign investors sold shares worth Rs 45,974.1 crore, while the domestic institutional investors bought stocks worth Rs 44,483.9 crore. In October, the FPIs had sold equities worth Rs 1.14 lakh crore, and the DIIs bought equities worth Rs 1.07 lakh crore.
Foreign institutions have been net buyers of Rs 6,770 crore worth of Indian equities so far in 2024, according to data from the National Securities Depository Ltd., updated till the previous trading day.
The benchmark equity indices ended at the lowest in over a month on Friday and recorded the worst week in months as hawkish outlook from the US Federal Reserve rattled global markets across the globe.
The NSE Nifty 50 closed 364.20 points or 1.52% down at 23,587.50, and the BSE Sensex ended 1,176.46 points or 1.49% lower at 78,041.59.
The market cap of the Nifty 50 companies declined Rs 2.9 lakh crore to Rs 186.97 lakh crore, according to data on the NSE.
