The top 10 most-valued firms gained a cumulative Rs 12,705 crore in market valuation on Monday, with Reliance Industries Ltd. and ICICI Bank Ltd. emerging as the biggest winners.
RIL gained Rs 30,921.5 crore, taking its market capitalisation to Rs 16.8 lakh crore, while ICICI Bank added Rs 11,645.7 crore, with its market cap rising to Rs 9.03 lakh crore.
Hindustan Unilever Ltd. and HDFC Bank Ltd. gained Rs 3,430.4 crore and Rs 2,217.8 crore, respectively. State Bank of India and Bharti Airtel Ltd. were also among the gainers.
The market cap of ITC Ltd. declined by Rs 1,939.3 crore to Rs 5.51 lakh crore, while that of Infosys Ltd. fell by Rs 2,906.6 crore to Rs 8.01 lakh crore. HCL Technologies Ltd.'s market valuation slumped by Rs 10,081.6 crore to Rs 5.19 lakh crore.
Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. was the stock that declined the most out of the top 10 most-valued firms, losing Rs 24,132.6 crore in market cap to Rs 14.6 lakh crore.
RIL remained the most-valued firm, followed by TCS, HDFC Bank, Airtel, ICICI Bank, Infosys, SBI, HUL, ITC and HCLTech.
The benchmark equity indices reversed two sessions of decline to close higher on Tuesday, helped by a broad-based rally led by oil and gas, and financials.
The NSE Nifty 50 ended 91.85 points or 0.39% higher at 23,707.9, and the BSE Sensex advanced 234.12 points or 0.3% to close at 78,199.11. During the session, the Nifty rose as much as 0.76% to the day's high of 23,795.20. The Sensex climbed 0.63% to an intraday high of 78,452.74.
Information technology stocks, led by HCL Technologies Ltd. and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., faced heat ahead of quarterly results. The top gainers were Oil & Natural Gas Corp. and SBI Life Insurance Co.
