The Hang Seng Index added 0.18 percent, or 41.39 points, to 23,690.94.
In Shanghai the benchmark composite index was flat, edging down 1.04 points to 3,071.06, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, was slightly higher, adding 1.17 points to 2,019.27.
