Foxconn, Nokia, Dixon Subsidiary Among 31 Firms Selected Under Telecom PLI Scheme

India has selected 31 telecom companies including units of Foxconn and Nokia under an incentive scheme to boost local manufacturing.Among the selected firms are 16 small firms or micro, small and medium enterprises, and 15 larger global and domestic players, according to a government statement announcing the launch of the programme.Other selected firms include Akashastha Technologies Pvt. Tejas Networks Ltd., Dixon Electro Appliances Pvt. and Commscope India Pvt.“The objective of the scheme is to boost domestic manufacturing in the telecom and networking products by incentivizing incremental investments and turnover with a total outlay of Rs 12,195 crore,” the statement said. The investments by successful applicants in India from April 1 and up till fiscal 2024-25 shall be eligible, subject to qualifying incremental annual thresholds, it said.India has announced production-linked incentives for multiple sectors as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government pushes local manufacturing of phones to drones and pharma ingredients.The 31 companies under the telecom scheme are expected to invest Rs 3,345 crore in the next four years and will generate employment of more than 40,000 people, the government statement said.
