Logistics major Delhivery Ltd. has set up a subsidiary to foray into the manufacture of drones and drone delivery services.
The company will set up a wholly owned subsidiary, Delhivery Robotics India Pvt., for the purpose, with a proposed authorised capital of Rs 5 crore, according to an exchange filing on Friday.
The company's focus will be four-pronged:
Conducting research and development in unmanned aerial vehicle technology, focusing on various form factors and payloads for eventual type certification and commercialisation.
Offering drone-as-a-service for shipment movement and remote sensing.
Provide drone pilot training.
Manufacturing, producing and selling drones globally, involving third-party manufacturing, procurement of components and flight trials.
The company's foray into drones comes on the back of its 2022 acquisition of U.S.-based Transition Robotics Inc., ahead of its initial public offering. California-based Transition was focused on developing unmanned aerial system platforms and with the acquisiton, all its intellectual property registered in the US was assigned to Delhivery.
