The prices of Amul's one-litre milk packs have been slashed across India, as per an announcement made by the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation on Friday.

GCMMF, which markets dairy products under the Amul brand, has reduced milk prices by Rs 1 per litre. This reduction will be applicable across the country, GCMMF Managing Director Jayen Mehta told news agency PTI.

The prices have been reduced only for one-litre packs, and not the half-litre milk packs sold by the company, GCMMF clarified. "This is to encourage consumers to buy larger packs of milk and get incentive for the same," Mehta reportedly said.

Post the revision, the price of one-litre pack of Amul Gold comes down to Rs 67 from Rs 68 per litre in Delhi, whereas the one-litre pack of Amul Taaza will now be available for Rs 55 instead of Rs 56 per litre.

In Mumbai, the per litre cost of Amul's buffalo milk has been decreased to Rs 71 from Rs 72. Similarly, the price T - Special milk pack has been reduced to Rs 55 from Rs 56 per litre.

Jayen Mehta, in a conversation with NDTV Profit in November, said companies need to adapt to the changing market scenario. His remarks came amid the slowdown seen in urban consumption, that has affected an array of fast-moving consumer goods company.

Consumers are not missing from the market, but consumer goods' firms need to cater to the changing demand scenario, Mehta had said. “Consumers are very much there, and consuming more and more. How we as brands adapt to this change is an internal call. But the market is very much there, consumers are very much there."

“If I am asked to look at the general lens of the market, there is continuous demand for all product categories,” he added.
