Auto Sales In November 2024: Bajaj Auto, Mahindra Clock Gains

Indian automakers are declaring their monthly sales data for November 2024. Here's a look at which automaker sold how much in the month gone by.

Mahindra Sees SUV Sales Surge 16% In November

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. continued to ship more SUVs than tractors in November, as outsized demand for oversized cars.

India's largest SUV maker by revenue dispatched to dealerships 46,222 units last month as against 39,981 units in the year-ago period---a growth of 16% year-on-year, according to an exchange filing on Monday.

  • India PV sales up 16% YoY at 46,222 units

  • India CV sales down 1% YoY at 22,042 units

  • Total tractor sales up 2% YoY at 31,746 units

  • Total exports up 53% YoY at 2,776 units

Overall, the company dispatched 79,083 vehicles last month.

Bajaj Auto Clocks Total Sales Of 4.2 Lakh Units In Nov

Total sales of Bajaj Auto Ltd. grew 5% year-on-year in November 2024 despite a decline in domestic two-wheeler volumes.

The Chakan, Pune-based automaker dispatched to dealerships 4,21,640 units last month as against 4,03,003 units in the year-ago period, according to an exchange filing on Monday.

  • Domestic two-wheeler sales down 7% YoY at 2,03,611 units

  • Two-wheeler exports up 26% YoY at 1,64,465 units

  • Total two-wheeler sales up 5% YoY at 3,68,076 units

In the commercial-vehicle space,

  • Domestic CV sales down 5% YoY at 37,243 units

  • CV exports up 10% YoY at 16,321 units

  • Total CV sales down 1% at 53,564

Overall, the company dispatched to dealerships 2,40,854 vehicles last month as against 2,57,744 units in the year-ago period---a decline of 7%. Exports, meanwhile, rose 24% year-on-year to 1,80,786 units.

Maruti Suzuki Continues To Ship More To Dealerships

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. dispatched 10% more cars to dealerships in November as compared to last year, amid lacklustre demand.

Total sales of India's largest carmaker stood at 1,81,531 units last month as against 1,64,439 in the year-ago period---an increase of 10.39% year-on-year, according to an exchange filing on Sunday.

  • Total India car sales up 5.33% YoY at 1,41,312 units

  • Total export sales up 24.77% YoY at 28,633 units

Hyundai India Sees Sales Decline After Festive Boost

Total sales of Hyundai Motor India Ltd. fell in November 2024 despite a surge in rural volumes.

India's second largest carmaker dispatched to dealerships and exported 61,242 units last month as against 65,801 units in the year-ago period---a decline of 6.9% year-on-year, according to an exchange filing on Sunday.

  • Domestic sales down 2.4% YoY at 48,246 units

  • Exports down 20.5% YoY at 13,006 units

An outsized demand for oversized cars continued to drive volumes for the Creta maker, in rural and urban areas.

SUVs made up 68.8% of Hyundai India's total volumes in November. About 22.1% of overall monthly areas was clocked in the hinterland. And CNG cars accounted for 14.4% of the total sales.

Tata Motors PV Sales Up 2%, CV Sales Down 1%

Total domestic sales of Tata Motors Ltd. showed a marginal increase over last year as car and truck sales sustained following the festive season.

The Tata Group company sold 27,636 commercial vehicles in November 2024 as against 28,029 units in the year-ago period---a decline of 1% year-on-year. 47,117 passenger vehicles were shipped to dealerships last month as against 46,143 units a year ago---a growth of 2%.

Overall, Tata Motors grew its overall shipments by 1% to 73,246 vehicles.

Toyota India Sales Grow 44% In November On SUVs

Total sales of Toyota Kirloskar Motor India Pvt. Ltd. surged yet again in November on the back of demand for its larger cars.

The Indian unit of the world's largest carmaker shipped to dealerships as many as 25,586 units last month as against 17,818 units in the year-ago period---a growth of 44% year-on-year, according to a media statement on Sunday.

"Notably, two of our flagship models---the Innova Hycross and Urban Cruiser Hyryder---have each achieved the milestone of 1,00,000 unit sales," Sabari Manohar, vice president for sales, service and used cars at Toyota India, said in the statement.

Toyota India is now offering "year-end benefits" of up to Rs 1 lakh on the Glanza, Rumion and Urban Cruiser Taisor models, which are cross-badged versions of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Ertiga and Fronx, respectively. The Hyryder is made by Toyota and rebadged as the Suzuki Grand Vitara.

"The year 2024 has exceeded our expectations and we are gearing up to close it on a strong note, with a continued focus on redefining customer experience to effectively meet evolving market demands," Manohar said.

Escorts Tractor Sales Slump Nearly 10% In November

Total sales of Escorts Kubota Ltd. fell in November due to "a shift of major festive days to October this year".

The Faridabad-based company sold 8,730 tractors last month as against 9,503 tractors in the year-ago period---a decline of 9.4%, according to an exchange filing on Sunday. Domestic sales fell 8.1% year-on-year to 8,730 units while exports shrank 39.5% to 244 units.

During the festive months of September to November, Escorts sales rose 9% year-on-year to 38,554 tractors as compared to 35,387 tractors in the year-ago period, the exchange filing stated.

"We expect the growth momentum to continue in the remaining fiscal year, driven by favorable macroeconomic conditions, higher minimum support price, improved terms of trade, and higher water reservoir levels."

JSW MG Motor Sales Surge On MG Windsor Demand

Total sales of JSW MG Motor Pvt. Ltd. increased by a fifth in November 2024 as its newest model accounted for more than half of the volumes.

The company shipped a total of 6,017 units to dealerships last month as against 5,016 units in the year-ago period---a growth of 20% year-on-year, according to a media statement issued on Sunday. At 3,144 units sold, the newly launched MG Windsor accounted for more than half of the sales in November.

"The company’s new energy vehicles (hybrid and electric) comprised over 70% of its total sales during the month," JSW MG said in the statement. "This underscores the position of NEVs as a significant contributor to the company’s overall revenue."
