ABB India Ltd. on Wednesday announced that Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has selected its PixelPaint technology for their new electric vehicle paint facility. This deployment will include 42 robots from the IRB 5500 family, making M&M the first Indian original equipment maker to utilise PixelPaint technology for painting contrasting roofs and pillars.
PixelPaint features a paint head with over 1,000 tiny, individually controlled nozzles mounted on an ABB robot, enabling precise application of paint. "Our PixelPaint technology can apply large areas of uniform colour as well as the tiniest details with complete accuracy, without delaying the production line or requiring manual intervention," Joerg Reger, managing director of ABB Robotics Automotive Business Line, said.
By integrating PixelPaint-equipped robots in dedicated cells, Mahindra’s paint shop will automate finishes such as contrasting roof and pillar treatments on its new EV line. The company noted a growing demand for personalisation options in recent years, which this technology addresses.
Shares of ABB India closed 1.18% higher at Rs 8,614.90 apiece, as compared with a 0.67% advance in the S&P BSE Sensex.
