Ola Electric Says 25,000 Scooters Sold In February But Only A Third Registered

Ola Electric has told exchanges that VAHAN sales readings lagged in February due to the renegotiation of contracts with vendors that carry out the vehicle registrations for the EV maker.

Only one out three Ola Electric scooters sold in February were registered. The company, promoted by founder billionaire Bhavish Aggarwal, claimed to have sold 25,000 scooters in February, but only 8,390 were shown as registered on the government's VAHAN website.

The discrepancy is due to renegotiation of contracts with Rosmerta Digital Services Pvt. Ltd. and Shimnit India Pvt. Ltd., which carry out the vehicle registrations for the Bengaluru-based maker, according to an exchange filing on Feb. 19.

"As a result of these ongoing negotiations, the registration numbers for the month of February 2025, as reflected on the VAHAN portal, will be temporarily impacted, while there will be no change in sales."

Non-Metros Warming Up To EVs

Ola Electric claimed market leadership in India's electric two-wheeler space with 28% share, but that's calculated as per VAHAN registrations.

"Owing to our wide scooter portfolio across mass and premium segments, and our network of 4,000 stores across India, we are now witnessing a strong uptick in demand beyond urban cities from Tier 3 & 4 towns," an Ola Electric spokesperson said in a statement.

"With our Roadster X deliveries scheduled next month, we are confident of further accelerating the EV adoption across the 2W category in India.”
